As everyone now knows the days of extra special offers at boat shows are long gone with the internet putting paid to the need to go to a show. Like buying a car most people now turn to the internet first looking for the model which best meets their needs and budget. Boating is not any different and it does not really make any difference if your budget is multi millions or £2000. With this in mind it is no surprise to see smaller companies turning their backs on Southampton Boat Show to the extent that it is reducing its foot print by around 25% this year. Despite this action the demand is dropping as it becomes more difficult to justify the significant expenditure and man hours out of the office for smaller companies. The Organisers attempt to put a positive spin on this rebirth of the show highlights there failure to recognise the needs of the smaller builders in the industry. Instead they have gone down a one way street of trying to buy in the general public’s attendance at great expense by offering various eating experiences and live music offerings at significant cost. This strategy is not delivering prospective customers and in the is not economically viable.
